Open models
The Open-Weights Index weighs a model's capability, its adoption, the ecosystem built around it and how open its licence is. Capability is the Epoch Capabilities Index scored against the frontier, open or closed: the best model Epoch has measured scores 100, and each index point behind it costs two. Adoption is 30-day downloads and likes on Hugging Face; the ecosystem is the fine-tunes, quantizations, adapters and merges others have published on it. Licence openness comes from the model's own licence.
Adoption reads how widely the model is actually used and built upon.
